Assembly manuals
Assembly – how to install your new garden building yourself?
Our timber products come with an easy-to-follow installation guide to help you through the process of assembly. This means that with basic tools and a helping hand it is possible to install the majority of our products by yourself. We do advise using professional help if you have ordered a product that is more complicated or larger such as, for example, log cabins, log houses, prefab houses, and the like.
Starting off
After the product has been delivered in a flat pack, we advise you to inspect the installation kit thoroughly in order to detect whether there may be any defects or missing parts. We provide a detailed parts list with the products and recommend that you double-check to make sure that the kit is complete before you start any assembly work. Every part on the list has a description, dimension, and quantity, with a drawing of its appearance. The parts themselves have a discreet marking which will match up with the one in the manual so that you should be able to tell them apart quite easily.
If you find any defects then please let us know. We’ll be more than happy to replace any parts that are not up to scratch. If you find that you are not satisfied with the product then please take a look at our return policy over here.
Our timber products arrive in the form of a flat-pack
When you have confirmed that all the parts are there and up to quality, place them on a pallet or any other clean, dry surface to avoid staining the wood. Untreated wood is especially difficult to clean after it has been stained, hence we advise you to avoid staining it in the first place.
Tools for assembly
Now that you have made sure that the kit is ready for assembly, please make sure that you have all the necessary tools for the installation process. Depending upon the product, the required specialist tools may vary, but the basic toolkit includes:
- Work gloves
- Multipurpose knife
- Tape measure
- Spirit level
- Drill
- Hammer
- Rubber mallet
- Stepladder
The list of necessary tools is also provided in the installation manual. Please make sure you have all of the tools ready before starting the installation process.
Foundation
Before you start the installation itself, please make sure that you have a sufficient, level foundation to support the structure. Read more about the foundation options for our products here.
Most of the garden buildings can be installed on concrete tiles, thermal blocks or a special wooden frame, but bigger buildings need a concrete slab or other stronger alternative.
Familiarise yourself with the instructions
Now that you have all the basic requirements covered, please read through the manual. This allows you to prepare yourself for all of the steps of the installation process and gives you the chance to get some additional help if you need it. If you decide during the read-through that you need professional help, we strongly advise you to use it.
The installation manual describes the assembly step-by step, and has drawings to illustrate the processes and the positions of the wooden details in relation to each other.
We have written the instructions in easy-to-understand terms to avoid any misunderstanding that may lead to you harming yourself or the product.
If any questions arise during the read-through or during the installation process, please contact our customer service team and we’ll help you out.
Assembly
Please follow the instructions step-by-step. Do not skip any stages of the installation or try to find alternative ways of completing the structure. The installation sequence is set up regarding the features and constructional specifics of each product.
We do not take any responsibility for any harm done to people or products that is caused due to the instructions not being followed.
The installation process starts from the ground up. First the structure, then the roof, and after that windows and doors.
Installing the roof
Follow the instructions for the assembly of roof beams step-by step. The roof is one of the most important parts of the structure because ensuring the construction quality of the roof and that it is fully water tight are essential for the longevity of the building.
Although some of our products have no roof covering as standard, we highly recommend buying it with the product from our store or getting a roof covering of your choice and installing it. Wooden boards by themselves are not a sufficient roof covering.
Installing windows and doors
Please note that the doors and windows of our products are not meant to be screwed directly into the construction. The wooden door and window frames tend to expand and our construction has the space for this expansion and subsequent contraction. If you screw the doors and windows directly into the frame, it leaves no room for the wood to expand and may result in damage being caused.
The doors and windows are meant to be screwed to the boards that cover the frame from both sides and which will securely hold them in place. Read the instructions for a detailed description before you start installing the doors and windows.
Treatment – wood impregnation and painting
All of our untreated products should be treated with paint or a high-quality preservative from the inside and outside within a week of completing the installation, and then on an annual basis. This not only helps with the longevity of the construction but is also necessary for our five to ten year anti-rot warranty to remain valid (depending on the specific product). You should also treat the door and window frames with a few coats of preservative as soon as you have unpacked them.
Please note that those products that are made with thermally-treated wood or which have been painted or impregnated in the factory all need special care. Maintenance instructions for all the products are included with the installation kit.
